Managing your Privacy Settings

Control who can see your profile and connect with you in Wisr

While Wisr is a private network for your school or organization, we still provide you with options to further control who can see your profile and who can contact you.

You can find your privacy settings by clicking the drop-down menu next to your avatar at the top right of your screen and selecting View your Profile. The Profile Privacy panel allows you to view and modify your privacy settings. Only members who can see your profile can contact you within Wisr.

If you select: 

• Anyone, that means that any person in this private network can see your profile and send you a message or request a call.
• Only certain people, then only the specific people with affiliations that match your settings can see your profile and send you a message or request a call.
• Only people I reach out to, then you are technically invisible in the system. You can see other people and reach out to them, but they will not be able to see your profile unless you contact them first.

If you have any concerns about sharing personal contact info, remember that the Wisr has built-in conference call scheduling and email services, so you never need to give out your phone number or email address if you don't want to.

Here are a few examples of how setting your account preferences can help you accomplish your goals within the platform:

You are an alum who only wants to advise students in a certain organization or program.

Set your visibility to Only people who I reach out to, and join the community for that organization. The only people who will be able to contact you are those you choose to start a conversation with and members who belong to any community you're a part of

You are an alum but only want to connect with other alumni.

While we encourage you to offer your expertise to current students, you can set your visibility to Only certain people and toggle Alumni:

You are a student who wants alumni and other people to be able to reach out to you to share resources or other opportunities.

Set your visibility to Anyone. This setting is popular for students looking to build their network ahead of graduation.

Control what information on your profile is public and private

Click on your photo or initials in the top right of the Wisr site.

Choose Account Settings then choose to go to Privacy. You can also type /settings/privacy at the end of your sites URL (ex: yoursite.wisr.io/settings/privacy).

From here, you can choose which items are public and private on your account by clicking the box to the right of the information and choosing either private or public. Most information on the site will be defaulted to  private.
